The Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is awarded by Cambridge Assessment English. It's the gold standard in TEFL qualifications because it includes a substantial supervised teaching component with real adult ESL learners — not just academic theory. Most reputable language schools worldwide either require or strongly prefer the CELTA.
The most common format is a 4-week intensive course, full-time, with about 120 contact hours. Part-time CELTAs run 8–12 weeks. Online CELTAs typically take 10–14 weeks. All formats require the same 6 supervised teaching practice hours and the same written assignments.
CELTA fees range from approximately €1,200 (Eastern Europe, Asia) to €2,200+ (UK, USA). Online CELTAs are usually at the lower end. Many centres offer payment plans or early-bird discounts — check our Special Offers page for active promotions.
Yes — Cambridge approved online CELTA delivery in 2020. The online CELTA has the same content and assessment as the on-site version, with live online teaching practice with real students. Many of the centres listed above offer both formats.
CELTA and Trinity CertTESOL are equivalent — both Level 5 qualifications, both regulated, both with supervised teaching practice. They're broadly interchangeable in the eyes of employers. The 120-hour online TEFL certificates have lower entry requirements and less supervised practice, so they're usually only accepted by entry-level schools or for online-only teaching.
A CELTA opens doors to language schools in Europe (Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Germany), Latin America (Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina), Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan), and the Middle East (UAE, Saudi Arabia). It's required for most British Council positions and at IH (International House) schools worldwide.
